Your Primark sounds like it was near Marble Arch. If so, go shopping there just as it opens. It is a quieter nice time to do it, and the store has not had time to get into an awful mess. (This advice probably applies to most Primark stores).

It does seem unbelievable...I would be suspectng outside interference, like someone or something...and the something could be a virus.
Ummm do you do regular backups? you might be able to restore back to at least a part of the document!

I was surprised by the lack of a built in optical drive too, but I can't actually remember the last time I installed something from a CD... OSX lets you mount a disk image as if you had a CD installed with no additional software, I think an all digital world is on the way! more…
